Some of my favorite current musicians:
My mother's work on Middle East Peace:
Mary Goold Appelman devoted much of her life to working for peace
and social justice. In 1982, she founded the American Israeli Council
for Israeli-Palestinian Peace (AICIPP), a sister group to the Israeli
Council for Israeli-Palestinian Peace (ICIPP). Their mission was to
call attention to Israelis and Palestinians who were speaking out for
mutual recognition and a peace agreement.
J Street represents Americans, primarily but not exclusively
Jewish, who support Israel and its desire for security as the Jewish
homeland, as well as the right of the Palestinians to a sovereign
state of their own -- two states living side-by-side in peace and
security. We believe ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in the
best interests of Israel, the United States, the Palestinians, and the
region as a whole. http://jstreet.org/
The late Uri Avnery was an Israeli peace activist. He fought in Israels
War of Independence, served in the Knesset, and founded the peace
group Gush Shalom. I would read his weekly column regularly...it
of the most perceptive political commentary around. An
unfailing advocate for the Palestinian cause, yet completely attuned
to Israeli politics and culture.
